RICHARD

RichardRichard’s father died of AIDS when he was very young, leaving Richard and his mother to care for the small farm on which they lived.  He attended primary school for a while on the generosity of friends and relatives, but was forced to quit when funding ran out.

Richard had very little money to travel to Moshi, Tanzania in search of other friends or relatives who could help fund his education.  After a few short weeks of searching and staying with friends, Richard was forced onto the street where he spent his days begging for money and his nights sleeping at a bus station.

One day, workers from Amani Children’s Home in Moshi found Richard asleep on the street.  They took him to Amani where he was able to resume primary school.  Richard passed with flying colors, and Amani provided him with an application for Peace House Secondary School.  He was accepted and is currently enrolled.

Richard enjoys studying Physics, Math, and English.  He wants to use his Peace House education to become a pilot.  In his spare time, he likes to play soccer.  Although school is a priority, Richard remains in contact with his family.
