JUNE 2010 UPDATES
Peace House Secondary School students continue to show determination and academic promise with their many recent accomplishments:

  • PHS recently ranked 19th out of 287 secondary schools in the Arusha regional exams!

  • 30 of the students in the scholarship program received full scholarships (free tuition) to attend University.

  • A PHS student achieved top honors at a regional debate contest.

PHS RugbyOur students are successful both in and out of the classroom. Some of the PHS students have been able to showcase their athletic skills by participating in various events, teams and tournaments!

  • Three students from PHS — Supa, Daniel and Goodness (a star on the ladies team) —were selected to represent Tanzania in the Safaricom 7s annual rugby tournament in Nairobi that attracts teams from around the world. Though their teams were defeated, the students gave their best effort and it was a great experience for all!

  • Three students finished in the top 20 out of 1,000 runners in the Kilimanjaro Half-Marathon.PHS Rugby

  • Four of the netball players (similar to basketball, played by the female students) played at the district level and one PHS player was selected for the national netball team.
Working toward a sustainable campus:
  • The organic vegetable garden on campus supplies all the carrots, onions, tomatoes and leaf vegetables for the school.

  • The bio-digester is almost completed and when the methane tank is finished, it will reduce the cooking fuel costs by 40%.

  • Seven lambs on campus have now become 30! The chicken coop is complete and hybrid chickens are arriving soon.

Congratulations to the students, teachers, and staff — all of your hard work is paying off!
